Hey everyone, I need some help! My PC was working just fine yesterday, but today it won't turn on at all—it seems like my power supply unit (PSU) might be dead. I've tried a couple of things like shorting the two pins on the motherboard and doing the paperclip test for the PSU, but no luck. I even reset the CMOS battery just in case.
I'm looking to replace the PSU and want to make sure I pick one that's good enough for a future build as well, ideally one that can support a 5090 GPU and a powerful CPU (I haven't chosen one just yet). I'm not too sure about the compatibility of cables these days either.
If anyone has suggestions on troubleshooting or recommendations for a PSU, I'd really appreciate it! Here are my current specs:
- PSU: BeQuiet Straight Power 11 750W
- GPU: 3070
- Motherboard: MSI Z490 Gaming Edge WiFi
- CPU: 10700K
- RAM: Corsair 16GB (not sure of the exact model)
Thanks in advance!

Ugh, that's rough! I hope it’s just the PSU and not something worse. Switching it out should be a pretty straightforward fix. Good luck, and I hope you get back up and running soon!
You can definitely find some great PSU recommendations online. Websites like Tom's Hardware and Newegg usually have reliable guides. For your setup, I'd suggest getting a Corsair 850W or 900W PSU; that should give you plenty of headroom for your future build as well!
Thanks for the tip! I really wanted to know if these newer power supplies would still work with my current setup, so I appreciate it!

Yeah, I was bummed at first, but knowing it might just be the PSU helps. Thanks for the support!
