My Router Only Connects via Wi-Fi—No Wired Connection Works!

Hey everyone, I've run into a bit of a problem. My modem seems to have stopped working with wired connections and only functions through Wi-Fi. I've tried a bunch of things: changing the settings, resetting the modem, using a known working Ethernet cable, and even switching out different computers. But nothing's changed! I keep getting random error messages like there's no DNS server assigned, no internet connection, only local network access, and the default gateway isn't reachable. I'd really appreciate any help or suggestions! Thanks!

Could you let us know which router you’re using? Sometimes they just fail unexpectedly, and while it’s not common, it does happen from time to time.

I'm using the Mercusys MR1500X.

It sounds like your router or modem might be failing, but first, make sure the DHCP option is activated in your router settings. Sometimes enabling this can fix a lot of IP address and routing issues, so it's worth a shot!

Check your BIOS settings. Some have an option that disables the LAN port when Wi-Fi is on. You might want to try disabling the Wi-Fi adapter on your OS too. Also, run 'ipconfig /all' in CMD to see if you're getting a valid IP from the router. If your IPv4 starts with 169.254, you're not getting an IP from the router, which is why the connection isn't working.

If your IPv4 address is starting with 169.254, it usually means your device isn't receiving an IP from the router. You might want to check the router's logs to see what's going wrong or restart both the modem and router after checking connections.
