My WiFi is down and saying I need an Ethernet cable—help!

I started having this issue about two weeks ago when my laptop became disconnected from WiFi. It unexpectedly seemed to only recognize an Ethernet connection and didn't display any WiFi options. I remember trying out some solutions, possibly through the Command Prompt, and after restarting either my router or my laptop—or both—it worked again.

However, the same issue popped up yesterday and I can't remember what I did to fix it before. Interestingly, my sister has the same laptop model and she faced the same problem. My dad managed to resolve her issue, showed me what he did, but the steps didn't work for my laptop. I suspect the issue lies in Device Manager, where my WiFi adapter shows a yellow triangle. I've updated and uninstalled it, but reinstalling hasn't helped. I even connected via Ethernet to update Windows settings and performed a network reset, but still no luck. I also tried flushing the DNS via Command Prompt, to no avail. At this point, I'm completely stuck and would appreciate any guidance!

You should head over to your laptop manufacturer's support page and download the latest network driver specifically for your model. This often fixes connectivity issues like the one you're experiencing.

Are you sure your laptop is using the right driver? Sometimes laptops can mistakenly select the wrong one. Double-check that!

If updating the driver doesn’t work, it might be a sign that your network card is failing. Some laptops have modular network cards that can be replaced, while others have them soldered to the motherboard, which could be a bigger issue.

Try downloading the WiFi driver directly from the manufacturer's site. If you're unsure where to find it, just let us know the exact model of your laptop, and we can help out!

It's an MSI GF65 Thin 10UE.

It sounds like a driver issue. Uninstall the device by right-clicking on the WiFi adapter with that yellow triangle. Make sure to check the box to remove the drivers during the uninstall. After that, using your Ethernet connection, download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website and install it.
