Hey everyone! I'm on a mission to get back into web development after taking an 8-year break (though I've been working on projects personally the whole time). I'm currently unemployed and need to secure a new job fast. I've set a project deadline to send out 10 resumes for fullstack positions by June 21. Here's what I'm aiming to accomplish from June 14 to June 21:
- Finish a 500+ products e-commerce store project (approximately 70% complete). This is a portfolio piece showing my skills, not a live store, but all functions including payments are ready to go.
- Revamp my outdated portfolio website.
- Update and enhance my LinkedIn profile.
- Record two videos to showcase my skills: one focusing on the e-commerce project and the other on my web development abilities.
- Write a couple of quality articles or posts for my portfolio and LinkedIn to display my knowledge.
- Prepare my CV and cover letter.
On June 22, I'll be reviewing everything and planning my job hunt for the following week. I'm currently working on getting the e-commerce store ready, which uses Next.js and includes features like a product catalog, filtering options, and a responsive design. I have a lot to do before Saturday, including debugging some APIs, setting up payment systems, and completing my portfolio website and content.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this project plan and any advice you might have on how to stay focused and meet my goals under this tight timeline.

It sounds like you're trying to tackle a lot in a short time! I’d suggest focusing more on getting your CV and LinkedIn profile solid first. Spend your time marketing your current skills instead of trying to finish the project this week. Once you get those applications out, you can always refine your portfolio later.
I think it's a bit ambitious for just a week. Maybe consider just focusing on a Readme or a blog post to explain your process and what you’ve done so far. It can show your skills without the pressure of finishing everything at once.
Honestly, that checklist looks like a three-month project, not something to be completed in a week. Try to simplify what you can do and focus on just getting your core project and portfolio ready. Integrating payments quickly can be done with tools like Autumn billing if you're pressed for time.
As a seasoned developer, I really think trying to complete everything within this timeframe isn't practical and might lead to lower quality work. You need to address the gap in your experience too when applying. Focus on showcasing compelling personal projects instead of trying to cram too much in.
Thanks for the advice! I might prioritize my job applications over the project then.
