Need Advice on Upgrading from My Ryzen 7 1700X: What’s the Best CPU Choice?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade the CPU in my PC that I built back in 2017. I mainly use it for web browsing, some productivity tasks, and occasional gaming (like BF2042 on a 1440p monitor). I want solid performance for work and play. My old motherboard died recently, and I replaced it with an ASRock B450 Pro4 I got for free, but now my system is pretty unstable—especially while gaming. I think my CPU might not be compatible with my 3200MHz RAM anymore. Here are my current specs:
- ASRock B450 Pro4 motherboard
- Ryzen 7 1700X overclocked to 3800MHz
- Thermalright Macho Rev. B cooler
- Great airflow with 7 case fans
- 4x 8GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM
- GTX 1080 graphics card

I'd love to hear your suggestions for a CPU upgrade. I'm considering:
- 5700X3D for €217 (maybe overkill?)
- 5700X for €130
- 5800X for €136 (similar price to 5700X, but are the higher temps worth it?)
- Any other options?

Thanks for your help!

For your productivity needs, the 5700X or 5800X will serve you well, thanks to their higher clock speeds. However, if gaming is a priority, the 5700X3D shines due to its larger cache. With just a small price difference, you might want to grab the 5800X over the 5700X. If temps are a concern, you can enable ECO mode in BIOS to keep it cooler.

If you think you can wait 3-4 years after upgrading, just go for the 5800X now. The temps shouldn’t be a huge issue; it’s manageable! When it's time to upgrade again, you’ll likely be looking at a whole new AMD socket around 2029 anyway.

Yeah, that sounds like a solid plan. I think I’ll grab the 5800X now and then build a new rig in a few years. Thanks for the input!
