Need Help After RAM Upgrade – PC Isn’t Booting

I recently decided to upgrade my PC gradually, starting with a new RAM kit—G.SKILL Trident Z RGB Series DDR4, 16GB (2x8GB). Initially, I noticed it wasn't running at the advertised speed and found out that enabling the XMP setting in the BIOS could help. However, I got stuck trying to navigate my BIOS, which doesn't look like the guides I found online, maybe due to an update that happened in 2019.

I eventually found the XMP setting, enabled it, and rebooted my PC. The fans and RGB lights came on, but it never booted up—even after 20 minutes. After digging deeper, I removed the CMOS battery for about 10 minutes, reinserted it, and when I powered it back up, nothing worked. Strangely, the RGB on my keyboard lit up, but nothing else responded. Now I'm left with what feels like a $400 paperweight. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Generally, enabling XMP should be safe if everything else is fine. Just double-check the CMOS battery placement—positive side should be facing outward. If you're still having issues, it might be worth trying a fresh battery entirely.

You might be having a power issue. Make sure all power connectors are firmly attached and check if the PSU is working properly.

I saw your update about finding the manual! That's great. If your fans and RGB are working but there's no signal to the monitor, check to make sure the monitor cable is connected to the graphics card and not the motherboard. Also, try using a different RAM slot; sometimes that's all it takes to get it booting again.

Yeah, and don't forget about the power connectors. If you can't get the chassis button to work, you might need to jump the power connectors with a screwdriver like you did before.

Have you tried swapping back to your old RAM? Sometimes reverting can help you troubleshoot whether the new RAM is the issue or if something else is going on.

I tried that, but it didn’t work sadly.
