Hey everyone! I've got a Sony Vaio laptop currently running Windows 7, but I'm looking to switch to Linux mainly for retro gaming customization. This is my first time using Linux, so I'm rather lost. I found a bunch of videos on retro gaming with Linux, and Batocera was frequently mentioned, but I've followed a couple of guides, and I'm running into issues with it.
I'm hoping to get recommendations for a Linux distribution that's beginner-friendly, allows for some customization (like the user interface, startup animations, and sounds), and can handle emulation for systems like PSP, PS1, and Nintendo. Plus, I'm planning to make a custom enclosure and controller with Arduino, so it'd be great if I could get this running smoothly!

Consider starting with Linux Mint! It's pretty user-friendly. You can then install the emulators you need for retro gaming. RetroPie works well with Linux Mint, or so I've heard from others on their forums. Check it out!
It’d really help to know your laptop’s specs and what issues you're facing with Batocera. If it's a hardware problem, we need that info to find a solution. If you're just not vibing with it, maybe we can steer you clear of similar options.
Oh, right! When I tried to boot from the USB, I got a 'BOOTMGR is missing' error. I attempted to flash the USB again, but it just boots back into Windows 7.

Thanks for the suggestion!
