Need Help Choosing a Motherboard for My New Build

Hey everyone, I'd love your thoughts on my current specs and some advice about selecting a motherboard. I've been set on getting the MSI Vanguard 5090 along with a few other components because the price was great—specifically, I got the Liquid Freezer III 420 A-RGB cooler and the MSI MPG A1250GS power supply. Here's my build list if you want to check it out: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xfvrFZ.

My specs include:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
- ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 420 A-RGB 69.9 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
- Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
- Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME
- Crucial T705 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
- MSI VANGUARD SOC GeForce RTX 5090 32 GB Video Card
- MSI MPG A1250GS PCIE5 1250 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Now, I'm looking for suggestions on motherboards. I was considering the MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK Wifi or the GIGABYTE X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7, but I'm open to other recommendations. Also, does anyone have insights on the MPG A1250GS? I got it through a bundle deal, but I was originally looking at a different model. Thanks a lot!

Your build looks solid! Both the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the RTX 5090 are top-of-the-line choices. For the motherboard, any B850 or X870/E board should work fine—as long as you pick one that meets your I/O needs. Just keep in mind that the PCIe 5.0 SSD won’t give you any real gaming performance boost yet, but it’s nice for future-proofing. And yeah, Corsair RAM is a bit pricier, but it’s reliable!

Thanks for the advice! I got the PCIe 5.0 SSD because I was told it was necessary for the OS. Should I consider dropping it or is it worth keeping?

If you’re set on gaming, you might not need it right now. It’s up to you! If you aren’t planning on serious workloads, a good PCIe 4.0 SSD will serve you just fine.

If you're going all-out with the X870, these boards come with some great features:
- Up to 2x 20Gbps front USB ports
- 0 to 2x 40Gbps rear USB ports
- 2.5Gbps to 10Gbps ethernet ports
- 1-2 PCIe Gen 5 slots

Think about what you really need though; not every fancy feature might be necessary for you!

Honestly, I don’t need any of the fancy USB ports. I’m focused on just getting a reliable motherboard that manages PCIe lanes without issue. I’m leaning towards either the Elite or the Tomahawk, but have heard mixed reviews.

Yeah, definitely read up on those audio issues with the Tomahawk. If reliability is key, you might want to go for the AORUS instead.
