Hey everyone! I've been using a second-hand PS4 for gaming for about six years now, and I'm ready to upgrade so I can join my friends in playing titles like REPO, Marvel Rivals, and Minecraft. My boss recently gifted me a collection of older PC parts and two cases, which I'm really grateful for! However, I'm not sure if these parts are even worth keeping for gaming or if they're more suited for office use. I'd love any insights on what's junk and what might still be useful so I can start researching and building. Here's what I have to work with:
- Rosewill Prism S lite case
- An unidentified massive case
- HP motherboard (LGA1155)
- 3 sticks of 4GB RAM
- CPU and fan compatible with the HP motherboard
- 1000 Watt power supply (APEVIA galaxy)
- A TUF gaming monitor
Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

The case is fine if it meets your needs. What CPU do you have though? Look on the label; just be cautious not to touch the pins. If that PSU feels cheap or rattly, maybe use it for a light office build instead of gaming. Also, the monitor is a big plus!
Alright, here's the brutal truth: that HP motherboard is likely junk. If it's using proprietary power connectors, you might want to toss it. Those RAM sticks are DDR3—getting pretty dated for gaming. The CPU fan and CPU are also likely not enough for modern titles. The 1000 Watt power supply from Apevia could be the best piece in your collection, but that isn’t saying a whole lot. Better to check model numbers for everything, especially the monitor, since that’s the most likely to still be useful.
Good to know. I currently use the monitor with my PS4, so I don't have the specs at hand, but I assure you it's decent!

It seems good but feels a bit like overkill for what I'd want in a PC.
