Hey there! I'm planning to upgrade my trusty old setup because Windows 10 is reaching its end of life, and with tariffs looming, I think it's time to say goodbye to my i5/1660ti combo. I'm definitely not considering AMD since I've had some rough experiences in the past—let's just say trust is hard to rebuild. I'd love to know if the components I'm looking at will be compatible and work well together. Also, is a 1000W power supply overkill, or worth it? The 850W is just a bit above the wattage calculations I found, but I guess more power can't hurt. Here's my build link for reference: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7Hq4VF. Appreciate any help! Cheers!

If you're sticking with Intel, the i7-12700K can be a good alternative. If you're on socket 1851, you could grab some fast DDR5 RAM, like 8000MHz. A 1000W PSU might be more than you need unless you're planning insane upgrades, like a 14900K or a future 5090 GPU.
Going Intel is totally fine! Just a heads up, the i9-14900K tends to run really hot, so using a liquid cooler would be a smart choice. Have you heard about the Vmin shift issue with Intel's 13th and 14th gen processors? It's worth looking into. Also, I’m curious about that pricey $600 motherboard—what makes it special?
Didn’t know the i9 ran that hot, thanks! Does the i7 run cooler? I’ll definitely Google the Vmin shift issue. About the motherboard, I need lots of SATA slots, and the alternatives had fewer.
Intel is still great for performance-heavy applications. Just keep in mind the 14th gen chips have some overheating issues, so a solid cooler is a must. You might want to consider faster SSDs like the Crucial P3 instead of what you picked. And that GPU price is pretty steep—check out the 9070XT instead for better value.
Yeah, Intel still dominates in performance for heavy tasks. Just be aware that the 14th gen CPUs have a known issue that can lead to damage if not properly ventilated. Make sure to keep your BIOS updated to avoid problems. For your cooler, consider a liquid AIO since the 14900K can heat up quite a bit. Also, that motherboard seems overpriced; it should range between $100-$200.
Thanks! I looked up socket 1851 vs 1700, and I'm wondering if switching to a DDR5 setup would clash with any of my current hardware, though.
