I'm planning to build a computer for Christmas on a $500 budget, and I've drafted a potential build that I found online. Since I'm not very experienced with this, I'd love some feedback on whether it's a good choice or if there's a way to improve it without exceeding my budget. If you have suggestions or alternative components that fit within this price range, I'd really appreciate your insights!

Try using the stock cooler and look for a more affordable case, like the Cooler Master Elite 302. This might allow you to budget for at least a 1TB storage drive or a better graphics card.
For a budget of $500, I'd seriously consider looking for used parts on sites like Facebook Marketplace, or maybe even going for a handheld console like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally. You can get way more value for your money that way.
Honestly, the pricing of the RTX 3050 is a bit of a rip-off. For that price, you might want to check out the 5700 XT instead; it offers much better performance. Also, the Ryzen 5 5500 is only about $10 more and could be a better option.
Are you open to buying used components? It could stretch your budget further. Just be careful about where you source them!
If you're in that price range, I'd suggest either getting a used console or a pre-built system. Just keep in mind that I already have a console and I use my computer for other things beyond gaming.
