Need Help with GPU Power Connection for My First PC Build

I'm building my first PC and I've hit a snag with the power connections for my GPU, which is an RX 6800. The power supply I have only has one 6+2 pin connector and another that's just a regular 6 pin. However, my GPU actually requires two 8 pin connections. I'm wondering if I should get an adapter for the single pin, but I've heard that can be risky and might even damage my components. What do you all suggest I do in this situation?

If your PSU is an EVGA 750W, that's generally a solid choice for most builds. Just make sure it has enough 6+2 connections available, as you'll need two for your GPU. If you only have one, you might want to consider upgrading the PSU or getting one that provides the necessary connections. Also, using an adapter might save some hassle, but always check how much power you're pulling to be safe.

Got it! I’ll consider upgrading to a PSU that fits my needs better. Thanks for the heads-up!

It sounds like your power supply might not be adequate for the RX 6800. Most decent PSUs that can support this GPU should come with multiple 6+2 PCIe connectors. If you're using a reputable brand like EVGA, they usually have the correct cables. You might want to check if both connectors are actually on separate cables. If they are, you should be fine, but if not, you definitely need to avoid using an adapter to prevent any potential damage.

Yeah, I just checked and the 6 pin is labeled PCIe. So it looks like I’m good on that front!
