I'm in the process of building a new PC, starting with the CPU since I already have a GPU but plan to upgrade that later too. I'm looking to spend up to $500 for the best CPU I can get, as I'll be buying the motherboard separately. It would be great if the CPU came bundled with a motherboard, but that's not a priority. I've only been building PCs for about two years—my first was made from leftover parts I found, and my second I assembled from parts bought online. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; thanks!

You might also want to look into the latest Intel Core i7-12700K. It's a solid performer and should fit nicely into your budget as well.
Considering your budget and needs, check out the AMD Ryzen 7800X3D along with an X870 motherboard. Both of these should keep you well within the $500 range, especially if you find them at a local store like Microcenter.
What’s your current GPU? Knowing that helps in figuring out whether an upgrade would make the most sense for you and if you’ll hit any bottlenecks. Also, should I suggest AMD or Intel based on what fits your current setup better? Oh, and what's your RAM situation? That could add some extra cost if you need to adapt to a different platform!

Thanks for the suggestion!
