Hey everyone! I'm really struggling here with my new high-end PC build and I could use some advice. Everything was running smoothly with my old graphics card (a 2060 Super), but when I switch to my new Zotac Gaming 5080, the PC only starts in safe mode. As soon as I try to use it normally, the system restarts shortly after logging in. Typically, it's around 2-5 seconds, sometimes it stays on for about a minute before crashing. I also experience weird audio stuttering during this time. I've already switched out almost all the components in my build – I've got an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, 96GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM, a Gigabyte x870i Aorus Pro motherboard, and I'm using a 1000W Asus ROG Loki Platinum PSU. The only parts I haven't changed are the case and the CPU cooler. I suspect the issue is tied to the PCIe riser since the 2060 Super works without any problems. I'd really appreciate any help with this, as I'm at my wit's end!

Your 2060 Super is PCI-E 3.0, while the 5080 uses PCI-E 5.0. Since your riser is only capable of PCI-E 4.0, definitely try manually setting the speed in the BIOS to PCI-E 4.0 or even 3.0. That could do the trick!
Have you tried removing the riser altogether? It's possible that's the main culprit here.
Just a heads up: make sure you're using the latest NVIDIA drivers. Sometimes, the newest drivers can conflict, so check forums for stable drivers that are recommended for the 5000 series.
It sounds like the PCIe riser might be causing the problem. If your BIOS settings are set to auto, the 5080 may try to run at PCIe Gen5, which the riser can't handle. I’d recommend going into the BIOS and manually setting the PCIe slot to run at Gen4 instead. Your old card runs on PCIe Gen3, which is likely why it works without any issues.
Wow, that was it! I can't believe I overlooked that. Thanks a ton!
This is spot on! I had the same exact experience a while back.
When you did those clean driver installations, did you completely uninstall the old drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)? That could be a crucial step you might have missed.
Since the 5080 is working in safe mode with basic drivers, I think you might have a driver issue. If you suspect the GPU could be faulty, maybe try it in another computer to see if the same problems occur. If they do, then it could confirm a defect with the card.
Glad you found a solution! Riser cables can really be hit or miss. They look great in builds but can cause so many headaches.

Thanks! That worked like a charm.
