Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind here and could really use your advice. I bought my ASUS ROG Strix G17 back in April, and it's been amazing for gaming. However, yesterday I got a prompt to update my Nvidia graphics drivers while getting ready to jump into a game. I've done this before without issues, but halfway through the install my laptop made a strange 'click' sound and just shut down. No alerts, no warnings—just dead.
When I powered it back on, there was no display on the laptop screen at all. It boots up normally, and I can use an external monitor via HDMI, but the laptop screen remains off. I've spent hours trying to troubleshoot online and saw that others had similar issues after driver updates. However, the common fix suggested is to boot it in safe mode for a clean install, but I can't get into safe mode with my laptop display not working. ASUS tech support seems to believe it's a hardware issue since I can't enter BIOS or safe mode.
I genuinely don't know what to do now. Has anyone faced this issue before? Is there something I could try, or do I really need to send it back for repair? I just wanted to play some Marvel Rivals, and now my $2000 gaming laptop has become a paperweight!

It sounds like your hardware might not actually be dead! There could be a chance that your laptop is just not detecting the display due to the recent driver update. Have you tried booting into the BIOS? That typically uses a generic display driver, so you should see something on your laptop screen even if Windows isn’t working. If that doesn’t show up, plugging in a bootable USB with either Windows or a Linux distro like Ubuntu might help. Just be cautious; I know it's frustrating in your situation!
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been told to get into BIOS too, but that’s part of the problem—I can't see anything on my screen at all, not even there. I can see the external monitor fine, but it doesn’t show anything when I try to troubleshoot in BIOS. So, I'm feeling a bit stuck.
