I'm troubleshooting a PC build for my girlfriend, and I've run into an odd issue. The system will reach the BIOS screen where I can press DEL to enter, but it gets stuck there if either the keyboard or mouse is connected. My motherboard is a Gigabyte Aorus Z370 Gaming 5, and I'm using a KBD fans mechanical keyboard along with a generic Asus mouse. If I unplug both peripherals, power down, and reset the CMOS battery, the computer boots into Windows just fine. However, if I restart the system with the keyboard and mouse plugged in, it hangs again. I can't access BIOS since the keyboard becomes unresponsive. Has anyone encountered something like this?

So, when it gets stuck, is this happening only during reboots or also after a complete shutdown? If it’s both, that’s definitely strange. It seems like your system may be having trouble initializing the peripherals during the boot process, and the CMOS reset helps by giving it a fresh start.
It sounds like a frustrating issue! Have you tried using different USB ports for your keyboard and mouse? Sometimes, certain ports can be finicky. Also, if you have access to another keyboard or mouse, testing with those might help. If none of that works, consider stripping your setup down to just one RAM stick and no GPU if your CPU has integrated graphics. Boot with only the keyboard connected and see if that gets you into BIOS. It’s worth a shot!
I also faced something similar and ended up doing a BIOS update via USB, which fixed it. Just make sure your motherboard supports automatic updates from USB.

It happens in both situations. A full shutdown or using the restart option yields the same result; I have to reset the CMOS to get it to boot again.
