I'm new to building PCs and am choosing between two similarly priced prebuilt systems for my first gaming computer. Both include an RTX 5060, the same amount of RAM, and the same SSD, but one uses a Ryzen 5 5600X while the other has an Intel Core i5-13500. Which processor would be the better choice for gaming, and would either platform offer better upgrade options later?

For gaming with an RTX 5060, the difference will probably be fairly small, especially if both systems use DDR4. If one system uses DDR5, the 13500 setup should have a clearer advantage. I’d generally choose the Intel system unless the Ryzen build is meaningfully cheaper.
The 13500’s extra efficiency cores can handle background tasks such as voice chat and other programs while you play. The Ryzen platform does have a strong upgrade path to chips like the 5700X3D or 5800X3D, but the 5600X is the weaker starting point for new builds. Also check the motherboard and power supply, since a better CPU is less useful if the prebuilt cuts corners on those parts.
The Core i5-13500 is the faster processor overall. It has more cores and performs noticeably better in productivity and other multithreaded workloads. Its gaming lead is smaller, but it is still usually a little faster.
I’d avoid choosing based only on a possible high-end upgrade. The motherboard, cooling, and overall system quality matter just as much, and the 13500 is already the stronger option today.
