Should I Ask for a Raise or a Promotion?

Hey everyone, I've been with my current job for three years now, and I'm starting to feel like the place is a bit of a meat grinder. I've moved through three directors already, with the latest one just giving their notice. Even so, I've managed to revamp much of our tech setup from the ground up and keep things running smoothly for a 750-employee company with 500 endpoints and 70 servers. I've been the go-to person and usually handle on-call duties alone. The pay is on the lower end for a high cost of living area, sitting at $93k. Given the current job market, do you think it's reasonable to ask my boss for a raise? Am I even qualified to ask for more, or is it just imposter syndrome kicking in?

You might want to consider asking for the director position as one option! Given your role and expertise, it sounds like you'd be a great fit for it.

It's likely that what you're managing now would be a nightmare scenario at a better-run company, and you'd probably be celebrated for it. Keep that in mind when evaluating your compensation.

Exactly! If you're not too stressed, pushing for that director role might be a fantastic opportunity for you.
