Should I Buy a Laptop or a PC for My IT Studies?

I'm a third-year IT student and currently borrowing a laptop from my university (an i3 8th gen with integrated GPU). While it works for programming projects, it's pretty laggy and unresponsive at times. I'm considering whether to invest in a laptop or build a PC. High-end laptops are quite pricey, especially compared to building a PC. My budget is around 30,000 PHP, but I'm concerned that I won't get much improvement with a laptop in my price range. I need strong specs for multitasking and occasionally gaming, as I enjoy playing AAA titles. My university has good lab computers, so I don't need to carry my laptop every day—just when I have project presentations. What would be the best option for me? If a laptop is recommended, could you suggest a few that fit my budget?

Build the PC and keep borrowing the laptop for urgent work. Just make sure to reserve the heavier projects for when you're at home. That way, you can get the best of both worlds!

It sounds like your current laptop issues might not be solely hardware-related. Check if background processes or resource-heavy software are causing the lag. You might get better performance by optimizing what you run.

It really depends on how much mobility you need. Personally, I prefer a laptop for college since I can easily take it to projects or study sessions with friends. But if you don't think you'll need to move around much, a desktop is a solid choice.

If you decide to go for a laptop, look for something lightweight you can remote into a more powerful PC if needed. That's a great option for when you have critical work that needs more power.

Consider looking into second-hand options, like a used ThinkPad T series. They’re durable and usually affordable, plus they can handle programming tasks well.

Honestly, getting both could be a great idea if your budget allows it! You don't need to go for the latest models, just something that meets your needs without breaking the bank.
