Hey everyone! I'm considering purchasing a used RX 6700XT priced at around $249 in India. I've also looked at some newer GPU options like the RX 7600, which is about $292, and the RTX 4060 at $360. My main worry with the used card is its longevity; what if it dies within a year? I can't afford to repair or replace it easily. I've checked the card in person and it's in good shape, but there's no warranty seal due to a previous issue that was fixed. During temperature tests with FurMark, the GPU hit about 78-79 degrees Celsius after 20 minutes, and I played Cyberpunk 2077 for 15 minutes without any visual issues. The seller offers a 3-month testing warranty, but I'm still anxious. Should I take the risk on this used GPU or save a bit more for a new one? How long do used GPUs typically last, even when they're well-maintained? Thanks for any insights!

From my experience, GPUs don’t typically fail just from age. Sure, they might need some repasting down the line, but actual deaths are pretty rare. The 3-month warranty seems sufficient to test it out properly, so you’ll have a good idea of its condition before making a long-term commitment.
I personally haven’t seen a used GPU die within a year. The reality is that it's always a bit of a gamble with used hardware. Just keep an eye on it while you use it, and you should be fine!
Used GPUs generally don’t just stop working; they usually get phased out when they become obsolete around 5-10 years. I’ve had great luck with my used cards lasting well over a decade as long as they're treated well. Just be prepared for eventual upgrades since new models will always come around.
Definitely consider repasting and repadding if you go with the used card. I’ve bought several used GPUs over the years, and they all worked fine even when I pushed them hard with mods. Overheating is a real concern to watch out for, so make sure it stays cool.
I've got two 10-year-old GPUs that are still running without issues! As long as you do some routine checks, like monitoring temperatures, you should be good. Avoid GPUs with water blocks; they can be a big risk! But a well-kept RX 6700 XT should manage just fine for you, even for a long time.
Totally! You see a lot of 'my GPU died' stories online, but it's not as common as it sounds. Just make sure to stress test the card during those first few months.
