Hey everyone! I'm looking to transfer a ton of my photos and videos from my nearly full phone to my PC. I've got some additional SSD storage, but I really need a good backup solution since I don't fully trust my PC and I love messing around with tech. I'm considering getting another drive specifically for backup. Given the skyrocketing prices of SSDs lately, I'm leaning towards an HDD as a more affordable option. Can I rely on an HDD for backups? If so, should I go for an internal one or is an external drive better? Thanks for your input!

It really depends on what you need it for. If it’s just for backup, an HDD is actually going to do a great job. Remember that SSDs can lose data if they're not powered at all times for long periods, so for backups, HDDs are often a better bet. As for internal vs. external, internal drives generally offer better performance, but if it’s just backup, you won't notice much difference.
You know, the drives you find in externals are typically the same as internal ones, just in a case. I just grabbed two 4TB external drives. I also keep my data across my phone, laptop, Dropbox, and an external HDD, which gives me peace of mind.
I currently have 10 HDDs running in my setup. They're way cheaper compared to SSDs and can handle multiple users streaming 4K content without any issues. Just a heads up though, I haven't bought any new drives in about two years since prices have gone a bit wild lately.
Refurbished enterprise drives can be a fantastic choice if you’re looking for reliability on a budget. They usually come with a good warranty and are built to last.
