I'm looking to replace my failing 2TB Gigabyte AORUS NVMe SSD, which is causing shutdowns during heavy writes. I've confirmed that my system is stable under CPU and GPU stress tests, so I suspect it's a known issue with the Phison controller and Windows 11. My setup includes a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4090, 32GB of RAM, and a Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro Wifi motherboard that only supports PCIe 4.0. I'm considering two options: the Crucial T710 2TB (PCIe 5.0) for about $330, and the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB (PCIe 4.0) for around $345. My question is whether it's worth getting the T710 knowing it will only run at Gen 4 speeds on my motherboard, or if I should just go for the cheaper, straightforward PCIe 4.0 SSD. Any thoughts?

Just get the largest SSD that fits your budget right now. You’ll likely appreciate the extra space more than the slight performance difference. Good luck!
Definitely go with the Crucial T710. It's a solid drive, and honestly, most users won't hit the limits of even PCIe 4 SSDs in typical use. Plus, you won’t see much difference in day-to-day tasks, so you might as well get the better option for future-proofing. f
There's no issue using a Gen 5 SSD in a Gen 4 slot; it'll simply run at Gen 4 speeds, which are still quite good. So if you're not upgrading your setup soon, going for the T710 could be a solid choice for future-proofing without any downsides.
That's reassuring to hear! I was worried about performance, but it sounds like Gen 4 speeds are still plenty fast.

I feel the same! Especially since the PCIe 4 drives are pricier right now, the T710 seems like a great deal.
