Should I choose a standard monitor or a gaming monitor for my Xbox Series S?

I'm a casual gamer using an Xbox Series S and I'm tempted to get the Dell 27 Plus 4K Monitor - S2725QS. It has built-in speakers, 4K resolution, and a refresh rate of 120Hz, which sounds great! However, I recently came across some discussions that suggested this monitor might not be the best choice for gaming. Can someone explain the potential downsides? I'm not very picky, so as long as it displays games well without major issues, I should be good, right?

4K monitors can be tricky for gaming, especially if your console can’t keep up with the high pixel count. For example, while a 1080p monitor outputs about 120 million pixels per second, a 4K monitor at 120Hz pushes an enormous 996 million pixels per second! If your setup can handle it, great! But if not, you might have to lower your game settings, which could impact performance.

I've been using an old 1920x1080 monitor and it’s been great for me. If you're not super competitive, you probably won’t have issues with casual gaming on a decent monitor like yours!

Unless you're really into eSports or competitive gaming, you shouldn't stress too much about the differences. A good standard monitor can do just fine for casual gaming!

One of the main concerns with that monitor is its response time. It has a standard response time of 5ms, while many gaming monitors boast a 1ms response time. This can lead to noticeable blurring in fast-moving games, which might affect your gaming experience.

The Dell 27 Plus does have some complaints about motion blur due to its response time. It uses an IPS panel, which is great for color accuracy but can come with a tiny bit of lag compared to faster TN panels. If you’re not competing, it's probably fine for casual use—just expect that slight delay during intense action.

If you're considering other options, OLED screens with HDR have been praised for their performance. They can really enhance your gaming experience!
