Should I Choose Kubuntu or Stick with Ubuntu?

I'm new to Linux and started off with Ubuntu. After experimenting for a few days, I've learned about both GNOME and KDE, which help in customizing the desktop interface. I've heard that KDE is better for customization, but since Ubuntu uses GNOME, I'm looking for advice. I asked an AI, and it suggested either installing Kubuntu to use KDE or adding the Kubuntu desktop to my existing Ubuntu installation. However, I'm worried about compatibility issues since GNOME and KDE don't work well together. So my question is: should I install the Kubuntu desktop on my current Ubuntu setup, or just go ahead and install Kubuntu as a complete OS? Thanks for your help!

Look, if KDE is your choice, just go for a fresh Kubuntu install. It saves you the headache of having both desktop environments cluttering your system. Try it out from a live USB to see if it fits your needs first!

You can actually install both desktop environments on the same system. That way, you can check them out and see which one feels better for you. Just keep in mind it may get messy with redundant apps and options in your menus.

Yeah, you can just run `$sudo apt install kde-standard` to get KDE, but remember, mixing them can be a bit chaotic!

Going with a clean install of Kubuntu might be the easiest path, especially if you want to avoid any conflicts. Trust me, KDE is quite awesome, and you'll appreciate the difference once you try it out from the start. You can always test it first from a USB before deciding.

Just a heads up, non-LTS versions like Kubuntu 25.10 need to be upgraded in 6 months, which can be a hassle, so keep that in mind!

If you're leaning towards customization, definitely give Kubuntu a go! You can try the live version first to see how you like it before fully committing. Kubuntu 25.10 is known for better functionality and lightness over regular Ubuntu, so it might be a smoother experience for you.

I think sticking with LTS versions, like Kubuntu 24.04, is safer for stability in the long run.

Ultimately, both desktop environments have their perks. If customization is your top priority, go for Kubuntu. But if you're already familiar with Ubuntu, you might want to just stick with it and add individual KDE apps as you like. It’s all about what feels right for you!
