I'm considering whether to go with the i3-13100F or the Ryzen 5 5500 for my new DDR4 build. I've heard that the Ryzen can sometimes outperform the i3. Interestingly, the i3-13100F is about $10 cheaper at my local store, but I'm uncertain which one is the better option overall.

I'd recommend looking into other Intel CPUs like the i5-12400F. The i3-13100F only has 4 cores, which might not be enough in the future. The Ryzen 5500 is decent, but it's slower than the i5 options, and the limited L3 cache can impact performance with lower-end GPUs. You're likely going to want to upgrade again in a year or two if you go with an i3.

Yeah, I agree! If the i5-12400F is just a bit more expensive, I'd say go for it. You won't regret having those extra cores later.

Honestly, I would lean towards the i5-12400F if it's within your budget. It's been recommended by quite a few people in these discussions, and it should serve you better long-term.

The pricing difference really depends on where you live. Around here, the i3 is about $90 while the i5-12400F goes for about $140. You'd be paying $50 more for what seems like a better investment in the long run. The i3's performance might make you consider an upgrade sooner than you'd like.

That makes sense! Investing a little more now could save you from a regretful upgrade in the future.
