A used RTX 3080 or 3080 Ti could also be worth checking, but make sure you know whether the card has 10GB or 12GB of VRAM and verify its condition and power requirements. For a new card, though, I’d choose the RX 9070 over the RX 9060 XT. If you can find an RX 9070 XT close to your budget, that is probably the best long-term purchase.

At those prices, I’d skip the RTX 5060 Ti and RX 9060 XT. More VRAM doesn’t automatically mean more performance, and the lower-end cards have other limitations such as narrower memory buses. The RX 9070 offers a much better balance for high-refresh 1440p and should remain useful for longer. If an RX 9070 XT is only slightly more expensive, that would be worth considering as well.

Before buying the RX 9070, check your power supply, case clearance, and available power connectors. The 5800X3D, 32GB of RAM, and RX 9070 would be a strong upgrade path on your current AM4 platform. If you’re trying to keep power consumption and cost down, the 16GB RTX 5060 Ti is still an option, but its €700 price makes it difficult to recommend beside the cheaper RX 9060 XT and faster RX 9070.

The right choice also depends on whether you care about NVIDIA features such as DLSS, frame generation, and lower power use. A 16GB RTX 5060 Ti can be attractive if those features matter to you, but at the prices listed, the RX 9070 provides considerably more raw performance. For 1440p, I’d buy the RX 9070 and upgrade to the 5800X3D and 32GB of RAM later.

The RX 9060 XT 16GB would work, but it isn’t a particularly large performance jump from your RTX 2060 Super. The RX 9070 is a much more substantial upgrade and makes more sense for 1440p gaming, especially in newer games. Your planned 5800X3D upgrade should be capable of keeping up with either card, so I’d lean toward the RX 9070 if the price difference is manageable.
