Should I downgrade my Internet plan?

Hey everyone! I'm considering switching my Internet plan from a high-speed plan (100 Mbps download and 18.5 Mbps upload) to a more mid-range option (50 Mbps download, 18.5 Mbps upload). We are just a couple living together—I'm mostly using the Internet for streaming TV shows, while my husband plays on his Xbox to stream NBA games and other sports, which he insists needs a solid Internet connection. He thinks downgrading might not meet our needs. What do you all think? Are his concerns valid? We're located in Australia. Thanks a bunch for your insights!

Just double-check that upload speed! 18 Mbps is pretty low, and sometimes download speeds can be less than advertised.

50 Mbps should likely be enough for your needs. I had a 25 Mbps plan and it worked well for streaming. It's surprising how 100 Mbps is labeled as "super fast" when there are faster options available in other areas.

If you're with the same provider, downgrading could be worth it. Most companies let you easily switch back within a certain period, in case 50 Mbps isn’t cutting it for you. Just check their terms! Thanks for the link! I’ll definitely check it out more thoroughly.

Honestly, 100 Mbps is considered slow by a lot of people these days, so you might be okay switching down. But it really depends on how much you both use the Internet at the same time.

Yeah, I get it. Internet speeds can be pretty different in Australia; it’s tough out there!
