Should I Focus on Node.js Instead of Learning Multiple Frameworks?

Hey everyone! I'm currently interning as a Backend Developer at a startup, where my main focus is on infrastructure and systems, particularly with AWS services like ECS, Lambda, Cognito, and DynamoDB. I've dabbled in frameworks like Django, Flask, and Express.js, and I'm now trying to learn Golang while building a project with it.

However, after a recent interview, I received feedback stating that my programming fundamentals, especially in Node.js and JavaScript, aren't strong enough. They mentioned that my experience seems more aligned with DevOps than actual backend development, which contributed to my rejection from a great startup opportunity.

Given this feedback, I'm torn between pausing my Golang studies and focusing solely on Node.js and JavaScript to really strengthen my skills and build projects. Alternatively, should I continue learning Go even if it means I might not excel at one specific area? I'm aiming to switch jobs and work for a good startup as I'm eager to deepen my knowledge in computer science and software development. Would love to get your thoughts on this!

I'd say dive into Node.js! It’s very popular and a lot of companies look for that skill. Strengthening your fundamentals will only help you in the long run. Plus, once you're confident in Node.js, you can always circle back to Golang or other frameworks later without feeling overwhelmed.

It's true that your current focus has leaned more towards infrastructure and DevOps. I’d recommend checking out what's in demand for backend positions in your area. If you find that Node.js is sought after, it might be wise to concentrate on it for now. Learning Go is great, but if you're not sure about its demand locally, maybe focus on Node.js, build solid projects, and reinforce your fundamentals there. That way, you can strengthen your profile before branching out again.
