Should I fully uninstall Windows 11 before selling my laptop?

I'm selling my laptop and I'm wondering if it's better to wipe Windows 11 completely and let the buyer install their own version, or should I reinstall it myself for them? A friend mentioned that the Windows key belongs to me, and I should remove it, but I'm concerned that doing this could complicate the sale and make it less appealing to buyers.

It's usually best to do a factory reset and wipe everything for the new owner. Most laptops come with an OEM license key that's tied to the machine itself, not to you. So you don't need to worry about keeping the key as it's meant to stay with the laptop. Doing this makes it easier for the buyer, plus they’ll get a clean slate when they start using it.

I'd recommend doing a fresh install of Windows 11. Since it’s likely that the laptop has an OEM key, just format it so it's ready for the new user. They'll appreciate getting a clean setup!

If your laptop originally had Windows 11 on it, you should reinstall it. Just make sure the buyer knows they might need to download some drivers afterward. Wiping it clean could actually make the laptop more appealing since it would be fresh for them.
