I'm looking to upgrade my storage and I'm considering a 2TB NVMe SSD, specifically wanting to move from a 4th generation to a 5th generation model. My motherboard is an ASROCK X870 PRO RS WIFI, which has heatsink plates already covering the SSD slots. Given this, I'm wondering whether it's worth it to invest in the Crucial T705, which comes with its own heatsink, or if I can save some cash and go for the T710 that doesn't have a heatsink. What do you think would be the better choice?

If your motherboard has its own heatsinks, stick with them! They usually have more mass and do a better job at cooling compared to those tiny heatsinks that come on SSDs. Also, consider what you're really after with a PCIe 5.0 SSD. They shine in very specific scenarios, like transferring large multi-gig files between two PCIe 5.0 drives. For most tasks, especially gaming or everyday use, a good PCIe 4.0 SSD will perform just as well.

Thanks for the info! I thought having a heatsink on the SSD would help, but I guess it won't fit under the motherboard's heatsink plates anyway. Makes sense!
