Should I Get a Used Motherboard or Upgrade to Newer Components?

I've been contemplating an upgrade for my gaming rig because my current motherboard has a dead PCIe port, meaning I can't use a Wi-Fi card. I'm using an Intel i9 9900K CPU, 2080 Super GPU, and 16GB of Corsair RAM, and I was considering a used Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero motherboard from eBay as a replacement. However, I'm also thinking about buying a newer motherboard and CPU, which would be more expensive but might be a better long-term investment. Should I go for the used board now and sell my entire setup later, or invest in new components now? Also, I plan to upgrade my RAM to 32GB—should I stick with DDR4 or switch to DDR5?

If you're in the UK, have you considered checking out a local store? Sometimes places like Micro Center have bundles that might help you save a bit while getting new CPU, motherboard, and RAM. Reusing your GPU and other parts could cut costs more effectively.

That's a solid idea! I'll have to see what I can find nearby.

Prices are only going to rise as time goes on, so it might be worth considering an upgrade soon. If you buy the used board, you may get a temporary fix but not a long-term solution. Think about how often you'll need repairs or newer tech in the near future.

So maybe it’s a good idea to invest in something new that'll last longer?
