I'm in the process of building my first PC this week, and I'm on a tight budget because hardware prices are pretty high in my country. Right now, I can't decide between the Intel Core i5-12400F and the i5-14400F. My main focus will be gaming and heavy multitasking, particularly coding. I typically run multiple applications, browser tabs, and development tools simultaneously. I've read that the performance difference between the 14th and 13th generation CPUs isn't significant, and gaming performance with the 12th generation is also pretty good. However, the 14400F has extra E-cores, which could aid in multitasking and productivity tasks like coding. I don't plan to upgrade anything for at least the next three years, so I want something durable. I'm sticking with DDR4 for cost reasons, and I understand this platform might be at its end, but if I do upgrade, I'd switch to a new DDR5 setup. I'm just curious if the price difference between the 12400F and 14400F is justified for my needs, or if there's a better AMD option around the same price point.

If you're looking for an alternative, the i5-12600K could be worth checking out. It's a little better than the 12400F and while the 14400F is good, the 12600K has similar specs but might be hard to find in some areas. Have you checked local store prices?
It's crucial to know the price difference where you live since that can really influence your decision. What are you seeing for those CPUs?
For the i5-12400F, it's around 6800 EGP, and the i5-14400F is about 8500 EGP. In USD, that's pretty pricey with the current exchange rate.
For heavy multitasking, AMD CPUs might not be your best bet. They shine in gaming but struggle with heavy multitasking compared to Intel, especially at this price level.
Really? I didn't think AMD was just for gaming.
The 14400 is comparable to the 12600K, just locked. If your budget allows, it might give better future-proofing for multitasking with those extra E-cores.
The 12600K is way more expensive, though—around 170% more than the 12400F. And it's nearly always sold out in local stores.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the 12600KF at all in local shops.
