Should I Go for the 9060 XT 16GB or Wait for Something Better?

I've had my PC for six years and just upgraded the CPU to a Ryzen 7 5800X, which is on its way. Now I'm considering a GPU upgrade as I'm currently using an older one that struggles with even 1080p gaming when I connect to my LG C4 TV for split-screen play. My current thoughts were on getting a standard RTX 5070, but it only has 12GB of VRAM, which doesn't seem great for future-proofing, especially for 4K gaming. On the other hand, a 9060 XT looks appealing even though it might not perform as well at 4K. I'm in Ireland, and the prices for the 5070 are around €550-650+, while the RX 9060 XT is about €420. Should I just grab the 9060 XT now or hold out for the super variant of the 5070, even though that might take a while?

I made the jump from a Ryzen 7 1700 to the 5800X and upgraded from a 1060 6GB to the RTX 9060 XT 16GB. Best decision ever! I game at 1440p and it runs beautifully, especially with the latest titles. Plus, it saves me from doing a full platform upgrade now.

Honestly, the price for the 9060 XT seems a bit steep. Have you looked around for other options? Some alternatives might give you better value.

Consider the RX 9070; it's priced similarly to the 5070, at least here in Finland. It might give you a better option worth exploring!

Honestly, even the 5070 isn't really a true 4K card. The 9060 XT and the 5060 Ti are solid choices for 1440p gaming, so think about your needs and finances before making a decision.

I’ve seen 5070 benchmarks showing it can handle 4K, especially with the newer games, so it might not be a bad option after all. Check out this comparison!

Yeah, but does it really perform well under pressure? That's what I’m worried about.

Get the 5070! The VRAM debate is overblown. The benchmarks show it uses less VRAM than the AMD variant in most cases. Plus, it's got GDDR7 memory, which makes a significant difference.

Exactly! If the 5090 were to have 12GB VRAM, that'd be a different story, but for the 5070, I'd say 12GB is plenty for the next few years.

That's reassuring to hear, but I still sometimes worry about running out of RAM in the future.
