Should I go for the RTX 5070 or stick with the RX 7800XT?

Hey everyone! I just purchased an RX 7800XT that hasn't arrived yet, and I'm contemplating if I should return it and invest in the RTX 5070 instead. I've heard a lot about the 5070's 12GB of VRAM and I'm curious about its performance. I'm currently using a 1070TI and I game at 1080p ultrawide. For those of you who game at 1080p, have you experienced any significant issues with a card that has 12GB of VRAM? I'm looking to keep my PC upgraded for at least five years, so I'm worried about needing to replace the GPU sooner than that. I've already picked up an R5 7500F and I'd like to try 1440p ultrawide in the future, but I wonder if the 5070 would be able to handle it well enough. I'm really anxious about spending the extra money—since I'm based in South America, the price difference is considerable—and later regretting it due to VRAM limitations.

Most people think that 12GB is fine for now, but it really depends on future games. Some say 12GB might perform similarly to 8GB on older models, especially if Nvidia expects users to utilize their advanced features. Also, 1440p ultrawide may need a bit more VRAM than standard 1440p, but not by a huge margin. It's a bit unpredictable!

If you’re not set on making a change yet, maybe keep the 7800XT since it generally does well with that price range. The decision really boils down to how important ray tracing and new features are to you. I've found that VRAM amount doesn’t always dictate performance unless you're playing demanding titles.

For 1080p gaming, you shouldn’t worry too much about 12GB—it's more relevant for higher resolutions like 4K. Sure, game demands could change over time, but you can always dial down settings if necessary. In the worst case, you’ll just have to adjust graphics a little, and that’s pretty common.

Right! It's not like you'll have to sacrifice your gaming experience completely—just tweak those settings a bit when the time comes!
