Hey everyone! I'm diving into some production work on my PC and I want to upgrade my CPU since I finally have a budget for a higher-end processor. I'm eyeing the AMD Ryzen 9 9900 to replace my current Ryzen 5 5600. However, RAM prices are making me second-guess this. Should I consider sticking with an Intel DDR4 system since I already have 32GB of 3200MHz RAM? Also, I'm a bit confused about the Intel 13th and 14th Gen degradation issues. Would it be smart to wait a month or two for potential price drops?

Are there specific tasks your current CPU struggles with? I’d say either prepare to spend some cash now or just stick with your current setup. Sometimes patience is key; if it works for you now, why rush the upgrade?
If you're set on getting a new system, I’d say just roll with the current prices. The future doesn’t look super promising for RAM price reductions, but at least GPU prices aren’t too bad right now, so it’s not the worst time to buy.
I think you're talking about Intel's 12th gen? Just a heads up that the higher gen CPUs mainly use DDR5. If you are staying with DDR4, get a DDR4 motherboard for the 12th gen. But honestly, if RAM prices didn't drop during Black Friday or Cyber Monday, we might just have to accept that they aren’t going down anytime soon, similar to how prices for fuel and other essentials have stayed high after the pandemic.

And just to clarify, the 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs can work with DDR4 RAM too!
