Should I Keep My CPU Overclock or Roll It Back?

Hey everyone! I recently discovered some software called 'QuickCPU' that lets me overclock my CPU. I have an Intel Core i3-1005G1, which usually runs at 1.19 GHz but after overclocking, it's now hitting 3.37 GHz. Before I overclocked, my average temps were around 60-70°C (50-55°C with a cooling pad), but now I'm seeing 87-95°C (78-82°C with the cooling pad). I use my laptop mostly for running LLM models and gaming like Minecraft and GTA San Andreas, all with integrated graphics. Here's my dilemma: should I keep this overclock going, or is it too risky and I need to turn it off before something bad happens?

Honestly, if your laptop was idle at 50-55°C, that's a red flag. Typically, you should see around 80-90°C under load. I use throttlestop to manage my temps and I don't go above 97°C—if you don’t monitor it, you could end up damaging your battery or other components.

Can I share a screenshot of the temps?

Just curious, what were your temps before overclocking?

Hope you don’t get in trouble for this! Just reading your title made me worried about your laptop's health!

Why would I get in trouble?

You need to be careful with those temps! 1.19 GHz was your base, but it would definitely boost under load—especially while gaming. Keep an eye on performance and if it’s getting too hot, it might burn you! How’s it feel now?

I’m checking it out! It’s on my table, not my lap, so I hope that helps with cooling.

Try running a game and see how it handles!

I’d highly recommend rolling back the overclock. It's running way too hot, and that could lead to serious battery issues down the line.

Yeah, my battery drains super fast—like around 45 minutes even with a full charge.

I’m really curious about your cooling pad! I need one too since my CPU can go over 102°C with a boost clock. What are you using?
