I'm in my first year of college and about to take my first coding class. I'm debating between C++ and Java because I want to become a software developer. What should I choose for my class to best support my career goals in software development?

Both C++ and Java are valuable for software development. It mainly depends on your local job market. Where I live, Java is in higher demand, but C++ jobs are still out there. Just learn one well, and transitioning to another language won't be hard.
Honestly, it doesn't make a huge difference which one you choose. C++ can be more challenging, but that's part of the learning experience! In the end, once you grasp one language well, picking up others later becomes much easier.
I'd suggest starting with C++. It's packed with features that will push you to understand different programming concepts better. But remember, the language you start with doesn’t define your career. Focus on what employers look for in your area!
C++ is a great choice if you want to dive deep into programming concepts. It might seem tricky at first, but you'll learn a lot about how things work under the hood. Once you're proficient in C++, picking up Java will be a breeze, but the reverse might not be true.
