Should I Replace My 6-Year-Old PC?

I built my PC back in 2020, and while it was running fine for a long time, it's recently started to slow down significantly. I had no issues using programs, watching videos, or gaming until I returned from college for spring break, and now it barely opens YouTube—if it opens at all! I'm not very tech-savvy, so I'm uncertain whether this is due to some mistake I'm making or if it's just a sign that I need a new computer. Everything is up to date; I'm running Windows 10 and the most demanding program I had installed recently was Photoshop, which I uninstalled to free up some space. Any advice?

It's definitely not normal for a computer built in 2020 to struggle with YouTube. Given how quickly things changed for you, you might have a failing component or even a virus. I recommend running a full antivirus scan and checking for malware. If you're looking for a more drastic fix, consider doing a clean reinstallation of Windows 11, but don’t forget to back up your important files first!

Have you tried cleaning out the inside of your PC? Dust can really clog things up and affect performance. Open the case and use some canned air to blow out any dust, especially from the fans. And yeah, a clean reinstall of Windows can often work wonders too!

Honestly, if your hardware is still decent—like having a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3060—you shouldn’t be having these issues unless something has gone haywire. If it still feels sluggish after cleaning out everything and maybe reinstalling Windows, it might be worth checking if your GPU could use an upgrade, especially if you’re aiming for higher resolutions in gaming.

At six years, it's not necessarily time to replace your PC. Newer CPUs and GPUs can outperform older models, but if you built your PC with solid components, it might just need some maintenance. Keep an eye on the temperatures inside the case too. Overheating can throttle performance, which could explain the slowdown!

It sounds like something's off here since a PC that was running fine shouldn't suddenly struggle with simple tasks like YouTube after a few months. First, you'll want to check your storage. If it's more than 90% full, that can seriously slow things down. Right-click on your C drive and see what's up. Also, using Task Manager while YouTube is acting up can show you if your CPU or disk usage is spiking. That info can be key to nailing down the problem.

I checked and my drive is about half full, with 235GB used and 229GB free. The CPU usage jumps a bit when opening YouTube, but it mostly stays between 0.5% and 10%. RAM is about 540MB, and disk usage is at around 0.2MB/s.
