Should I Return My CPU Over These Issues?

Hey everyone! I recently bought a 7800x3D processor based on my friends' recommendation to go for the OEM version rather than the boxed one, even though I was a bit hesitant about it. Right now, I'm waiting for some additional parts to arrive, so I can't test the CPU immediately. I checked it out at the store and didn't notice anything off, but when I got home and looked at it under better light, I found a couple of concerning things:

1. There's a tiny chip on the edge of the bottom.
2. I see some possible dirt on one of the LGA contacts.

I'm unsure whether I should initiate a return or RMA, or if it's ok to attempt cleaning it gently with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. I'm pretty paranoid about damaging it further, especially since I've read so many warnings about improperly handling the contacts. What do you all think?

If RMA or return is easy and free, just go for it. It’s better to be cautious than to deal with any issues down the line. Just make sure you check the return policy first!

Yeah, I’m worried they might say I inspected it already and not accept the return. That makes this a tough call!

You seem pretty worried, but these CPUs are usually quite durable. I once accidentally launched mine across the room while trying to remove a thermal latch, and it was totally fine! I'd say don't stress too much about it as long as the damage isn't severe.

I get what you're saying, but I've heard horror stories too. It's just nerve-wracking to think about touching it and making it worse!

If your return window is open, definitely consider doing it now before you risk anything. Better to be safe than sorry, especially since you haven't even tested it yet.

Thanks for the advice! I do have about 8-9 days left, so maybe I should just wait until I can test the rest of my components first.
