Should I Spend $1300 on a PC Build Before College?

I'm 18 and heading to college soon. I've saved up about $4500 and have a part-time job that pays $9.50 an hour for the next few months. I've always wanted to build my own PC, and I'm considering spending around $1300 on parts for it. I believe I'll get a lot of use out of it during college. I'd love to hear your thoughts before I make a final decision. Thanks!

Ultimately, it’s your call. If you feel comfortable spending that amount, go for it. Just remember, I once had a decent budget and ended up building a low-end PC first to get my feet wet. It helped me avoid a big loss if something went wrong, and I upgraded later when I was more confident with my skills.

Modern gaming PCs usually cost around $1500, but you can definitely find a solid build within your budget. Take a look through similar threads here; there are tons of PC builds you can use for inspiration!

I already have a specific build in mind, just looking for confirmation if it’s okay to spend that much before college.
