Hey folks, I'm looking to make a career shift into DevOps. I'm totally new to this, so be gentle with your advice! I've taken some courses on IT fundamentals, Python OOP, DSA, MS SQL, and Kali Linux, and have been practicing on my own. My question is whether I should go for junior software developer jobs to get some experience first, or jump straight into junior DevOps positions. What do you think? Thanks a lot!

Consider getting some AWS certifications, even the practitioner ones, along with learning Docker and Kubernetes. They'll be really helpful in your DevOps journey.

I highly recommend learning Linux sysadmin with the RHCSA certification and getting familiar with at least one cloud technology. Most DevOps tools like Docker and Kubernetes are Linux-based. Companies usually prefer candidates with prior experience and possibly an IT degree, so start preparing!

I suggest you start by solidifying your basics in Linux and networking. A hands-on lab environment is essential to build your confidence. Once you've got the fundamentals down, set up your own cluster to play around with. Remember, DevOps isn't typically a beginner role, so be prepared to invest time and effort. Keep pushing through, you've got this!
I would suggest starting with junior software engineering positions. It can give you a solid foundation to move into DevOps later on.
As much as I dislike it, starting as a FullStack Engineer could be a great stepping stone for DevOps roles. You'll learn about backend, frontend, and CI/CD pipelines, which are crucial for DevOps work.
