I'm thinking about switching from Windows to Linux, possibly Mint or another distro, but I'm getting ready to study abroad and I'm worried I might not be able to keep up with my courses without Windows. I asked about dual booting, but I've heard it might not be ideal for laptops. If anyone has been in a similar situation, I would love your guidance! Here are my laptop specs: HP EliteBook 830, Intel Core i7 vPro, 12GB RAM, and 500GB storage (half SSD).

I've set up dual boot on my laptop and it's been smooth sailing. I figured out some tweaks over time, like getting it to boot into the last OS used. Watch out though—sometimes a Windows update can mess up the boot files. But you can fix that easily with a live USB and Boot Repair. Good luck!
If you need certain software that doesn't run well on Linux, even with WINE, dual-booting might be the best option for you. It'll let you keep Windows while also trying out Linux. Just make sure to research compatibility for the apps you'll need for your courses!

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely keep that in mind.
