Should I Take Free RAM for My New PC Build?

Hey everyone! I'm currently building a new personal PC, and I've got my eye on the "64GB Kingston FURY Beast Black DDR5-6000 CL30 Dual Kit". I really need the 64GB because I work with heavily modded game assets and machine learning tasks, but the price has really shot up. I recently discovered that I can take some free RAM from my workplace—192GB total (4x48) at 5200 CL38. I'm considering taking two sticks for 96GB, but I'm worried about the lower speed and latency compared to the RAM I initially wanted. Saving about €340 is definitely appealing, but I want to make sure I'm not compromising too much on performance. What do you all think? Should I just grab the free RAM or stick to my original plans despite the cost?

I agree! Go for the free RAM and see how it performs. If you're really unhappy with it later, you can still buy the better stuff when prices drop. At least this way, you won't be rushed into spending a lot of cash right now!

Exactly! If nothing else, you can test the free RAM and decide later if you want to invest in something faster.

Take all 192GB if you can! There are plenty of builds that can utilize that much RAM, and you could always sell off the excess later if you only want 96GB. It's a win-win!

I say take the RAM! The difference in speed might not be noticeable in real-world scenarios, and you could save your cash for upgrading other components like your CPU or GPU instead. Plus, if you grab all four sticks, you might end up with a system that performs well enough.

Yeah, the performance boost from spending more on RAM might not be worth it compared to what you can upgrade elsewhere.

Go ahead and take the RAM! Even if it’s not the top-tier option, you can always come back to it later and decide if you need the faster sticks. It’s hard to pass on free components as it is!

Definitely take the free RAM! It's a solid option to save money, and you can always upgrade later if you find the performance lacking. Plus, who knows how long it'll be before RAM prices normalize?
