Should I Teach My Brother Web Development or Encourage Him to Find a Job?

I've been hearing a lot about how the web development field is oversaturated and that it can be tough to land a job these days. I have 15 years of experience in web development, mainly freelancing with a small set of regular clients, so I'm not too familiar with the current job market. My brother just took his university entrance exam but didn't get placed anywhere. Now, he's got a few options:

1. Keep waiting a year and pay for private tutoring to retake the exam. But I'm worried about the costs and his motivation to study.
2. Get a regular job, like waiting tables.
3. I could teach him some web development skills and help him with my work, or even find him some clients.

The catch is, he spends most of his time gaming and shows little interest in anything else. I've tried to teach him web development before, but he hasn't been keen on it.

It's great that you want to help your brother, but if he's really not interested, it could backfire. Teaching requires enthusiasm, and he might just not have it yet. Maybe show him some fun projects to spark a little curiosity?

Exactly! If he’s not really into it, forcing it won’t help. Sometimes the best way to learn is to just dabble and see what clicks. A little exposure might ignite something.

Yeah, you can't make someone want it. If he's too comfortable right now, maybe getting a job will push him towards realizing what he wants to do.

Honestly, he might benefit from trying out a regular job first. Sometimes having that experience can motivate someone to want something more. It’s not your responsibility to give him ambition; he needs to find that himself.

That’s true! If he dislikes the job, it might push him to reassess his path. Maybe after some real-world experience, he'll start looking for something he's more passionate about.
