Should I Trust a Stranger Asking Me to Disable Find My on My Old iPhone?

I received a strange message from someone claiming they bought an old iPhone model I used to own. They say my number is somehow linked to their phone, and that Apple suggested I remove it from Find My so they can reset it. However, I had to give the phone away broken, and couldn't factory reset it myself. I'm worried if I do this, could they access my personal data like photos and messages? Is there a way for me to delete the data from that device if it reconnects to the internet?

It sounds like if you didn't wipe the old phone properly, your data could still be on it. Even if you're being careful, it might be worth sending a remote wipe command just to be safe. As for this stranger, you should definitely trust your instincts—don’t remove it from Find My unless you're absolutely sure.

True, and if they really were just trying to get you to remove it for genuine reasons, they should have proof from Apple. Otherwise, it's smarter to assume the worst!
