Should I Upgrade from GTX 1050 Ti to RX 580 for eSports?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some insights about upgrading a gaming setup that currently has an R5 3600 paired with a GTX 1050 Ti. The owner primarily plays eSports titles like CS2, Valorant, Apex, and Dota 2, plus some casual games like Minecraft. They aren't into the latest triple-A games and are okay with lowering graphics settings if it helps.

I was initially going to pass down my RX 6600 XT, but now I'm wondering if it would be better to get them an RX 580 instead since they feel that the GTX 1050 Ti meets their needs for now and might find the higher-end card wasted on their usage. I've seen some bottleneck calculators showing that the GPU may moderately bottleneck the CPU current and potential, but I'm not sure how crucial that is for their use. What do you all think?

If they're satisfied with the GTX 1050 Ti and it meets their current needs, why bother changing it? It might not make sense to swap it out for the RX 580 when they’re already getting good performance from what they have.

I get that, but I’m upgrading to a 9070 XT soon, and my RX 6600 XT will be collecting dust by November. I’d rather pass it along than let it sit.

I think giving them the 6600 XT is a solid idea. They might start utilizing its power more effectively once they have it since right now they’re likely limited by their current setup. It could really enhance their gaming experience in those eSports games!

Yeah, I’m leaning that way. Just concerned about whether the CPU will be stretched too thin with the RX 6600 XT, since I've had some stuttering issues on my setup.

The bottleneck really depends on their gaming settings—resolution and details matter a lot. The R5 3600 should pair well with the RX 6600 XT even at higher settings. I wouldn’t worry too much; the extra performance will surely be used for smoother gameplay in CS2 and similar titles.

Good to hear! I was just anxious about the CPU reaching 100% utilization since I’ve experienced stutter issues before without overclocking.

Honestly, just hand over the RX 6600 XT or sell it. Buying a less powerful GPU like the RX 580 isn’t worth the hassle. Bottleneck calculators often give misleading information; the Ryzen 5 3600 can handle the 6600 XT quite well!

That’s really useful! I was considering the RX 580 because of my previous CPU issues with 100% utilization in some games.
