Hey everyone! My brother-in-law wants to dive into video editing for his TV show, and he's dealing with about 1TB of video data. I'm not too savvy with video editing gear. I was considering giving him my current setup, which includes a Z490 motherboard with an Intel i5-10850K processor running at 5GHz, 64GB of RAM, a 1TB Gen 3 NVMe SSD, and a Corsair RM750 power supply. He would need to buy a case, a used GPU, and an additional HDD for storage. Given the high prices of parts these days, that seems like a cost-effective plan.
There's also a Microcenter nearby with AMD bundles like the Ryzen 7 9700X and a Gigabyte B650 gaming motherboard with 32GB of RAM for about $549. His budget is around $1500 and he's open to payment plans with different vendors.
What do you think we should do? Also, what kind of GPU is necessary for editing? Would a used RTX 3060 suit his needs? Are there any good AMD or Intel alternatives?

You might want to consider the used A770 with 16GB or an upgraded option like the B580 for video editing. They can be pretty affordable and effective for handling video work. Keep in mind, though, that the Intel 10850K setup you have is still solid for editing.

So are you saying it's better to stick with the 10850K instead of getting a new CPU? I just want to make sure we're making the right choice for his budget.
