Should I Upgrade My CPU or GPU First?

I've got an i5 11400F and a 6GB 2060 GPU in my prebuilt rig, and while it's been okay for most of the games I play, I'm struggling with Oblivion Remastered. The performance is either a laggy mess or the graphics are terrible. I'm considering getting a 3050 now to see if it improves my gaming experience, and then upgrade my CPU and motherboard in a few weeks. What do you guys think?

If you're thinking about a complete overhaul, it might be worth waiting to upgrade both the GPU and CPU together, especially if you already have 32GB of RAM. You’ll just have to figure out a budget and what fits your needs best. But if you need an upgrade sooner, definitely pick a GPU that’s better than the 2060!

I recommend getting a new GPU first, but don’t bother with the 3050 since it’s worse than what you already have. For Nvidia, aim for a 3060 Ti, or for AMD, try looking for a 6600 XT or 6700 XT—they're solid upgrades and often around the same price as a 3060. That’ll help with Oblivion too! Just keep an eye on prices and availability.

Honestly, a new GPU is more important than a CPU upgrade right now, but definitely steer clear of the 3050. It's actually slower than the 2060. Something like the 3060 Ti or the RX 6600 XT would give you a nice boost and keep you gaming well. Just make sure to check your power supply wattage before upgrading!

Upgrading to a 3050 might not be the way to go. The 3050 can actually be a downgrade from a 2060 performance-wise, especially the 6GB version, which is about 50% slower. If you want a meaningful upgrade, consider options like the RX 7600 XT, B580, or RTX 3060 Ti instead. You'll get better performance without having to replace your CPU right away.
