I'm looking for advice on upgrading my CPU. Right now, I'm using an i7-10700K paired with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and an RTX 3060 Ti. I'm considering either a Ryzen 7 5800X or an Intel i5-14600K, but I want to avoid the expense of DDR5 RAM. My budget is around 350-400 CAD for the new CPU and I'll also be getting a new case and motherboard, and possibly replacing my 140mm CPU water cooler. I play a lot of FPS and single-player games, and I dabble in VR. I usually prefer better graphics even if it means sacrificing a few frames.

Keep in mind that LGA1700 motherboards often don't perform as well with DDR4, which might make the 5800X a more attractive option. I assume you're talking about the i5-14600K, as the 14400F would be another choice, but just check your specs to avoid confusion.
Upgrading your CPU might not lead to a huge jump in gaming performance unless you're currently facing significant CPU limitations. If that's not the case, you might not see much benefit without also improving your GPU. The 5800X could be a better choice for you, as it works well with DDR4 and is generally more efficient and easier to cool. Just make sure the pricing is in your favor since it's more available than the 5800XT.
Is there a significant difference between the 5800X and the 5800XT?
Considering you prioritize graphics quality, your current setup is already pretty solid. While your i7-10700K can still hold its own, your 3060 Ti might start struggling in demanding titles or at higher resolutions than 1080p in a few years. Just keep that in mind when deciding on an upgrade.
I only really play in 1080p, since my monitor is 165hz. I’ve never found the need to jump to 1440p.

Yeah, I meant the 14600K. Just a typo on my part.
