Should I Upgrade My GPU or Build a New Gaming PC?

I'm currently using a PC that I built back in 2015 and I'm feeling the need for an upgrade. My specs are as follows:

- Motherboard: MSI H81M-P32
- CPU: Intel i5-4690 3.50GHz
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (2 GB)
- RAM: 16 GB (DDR4)
- SSDs: 500 GB KINGSTON SA400S37480G, 250 GB Samsung 850 EVO

I mainly play competitive games like Counter Strike and Rocket League, but I've been experiencing occasional frame drops. I also have a backlog of AAA and AA games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk 2077 that I'd love to play at 1080p on high settings. Do you think an upgrade to my GPU would be enough, or should I just rebuild the entire setup?

All signs point to a complete rebuild. The parts you have are mostly outdated; the only thing worth salvaging might be your SSDs. Just remember to make a solid plan for the new setup, starting with the CPU and GPU you want.

Rebuilding is the way to go! Most of your old components are just not worth keeping for today's games. I suggest checking out CPU and motherboard bundles, especially if you're near a Micro Center. Aim for the AM5 platform for future-proofing.

It seems like rebuilding is your best option. A new setup will not only save you from constant upgrades later but will also give you a significant performance improvement for modern games. Go for it!

A GPU upgrade alone probably won't cut it. The CPU and motherboard are too old to handle the latest games. You'll have a much better experience if you build a new system, especially for those AAA games you're eyeing.

Honestly, at this point, it might be better to go for a complete rebuild. Your CPU is quite outdated and won't support modern gaming effectively. You could reuse your case and storage, but you'll need a new motherboard, CPU, and GPU for a significant performance boost.
